To the Members of our Congregations and to our Community,
We, the members of the Prairie City Ministerial Association, understand that we are all living through anxious days. We want to assure you that even though we have canceled worship services, we are of one belief that God has not canceled the church, or its mission and ministry in our community. With God’s guidance and strength we are united in our commitment to continuing the work of Jesus as He gives us wisdom. We are also committed to observing the recommendations of the CDC in practicing social distancing, but even still, our hearts are closer than ever. More than that, it is important to remind ourselves that God will not be observing social distancing, and is closer to you now more than ever. We will continue to meet as a ministerial association through video conference calls to pray, to plan and to assess the needs of our community and how we might be able to help as best as God enables us. We even have some fun plans in the works for doing a combined Easter morning worship service through a live stream.
If you see community members in great need in our town, please let the ministerial association know, or your own pastor know, so that we can be of service.
May you be as comforted and encouraged by the following scriptures as we have.
From Pastor Matt McClure, Prairie City Christian Reformed Church:
One scripture that has been comforting for me lately has been
Psalm 46:1-3 "1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging."
From Pastor Jason Burns, Grace Alive
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
From Pastor Tim Peter, Prairie City Church of the Brethren
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus!” Philippians 4:4-7
From Pastor Max Wagaman, Prairie City Christian Church Disciples of Christ
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
From Pastors Mary and Bruce Baker, Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9.
From Pastor Jon Bailey, Prairie City United Methodist Church
Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (Even if it is online or on the phone)
From Pastor Jason Taylor, Prairie City First Reformed Church
“Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
‘God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. I Peter 5:5-7
Be strong in the Lord. Keep the faith and keep on praying!
